The Story of Road-Rest Arm Rests
The
Road-Rest was invented by Pastor Butch Bruton of Caddo Mills, Texas, who's
driven trucks and SUVs for most of his life. If it's not raining and the
outside temperature is somewhere between 30 and 100 degrees,
you just might see him cruising in his Ford Super Crew with the
window down,
resting his arm on the
door panel. But early in 2002, while rubbing his aching elbow, Pastor Butch
determined that something had to be done about that hard surface of the
door panel.
Not one to let a "witty invention or idea" (Proverbs
8:12) slip by, Pastor
Butch began bending sheet metal for the frame, gluing foam to the sheet
metal, and covering the whole thing with upholstery fabric.
After months of making different angles and sizes, the prototype of the
Road-Rest was ready to be submitted for a patent and a manufacturing
facility was contacted.
Everything came together and Road-Rest was ready to sell in December
2002. Today Road-Rests are sold in fine retail and catalog stores
worldwide, such as J.C. Whitney and Brookstone.
